After we posted yesterday we continued to enjoy our time during the late afternoon. Keith went back up to play more tennis with two passengers who he has played with from time to time. Eventually, the gent left and he played against the woman. They are not related. Anyway, during a break he learned that she and her husband would be on the Symphony in March for a major birthday milestone. Keith is thinking 65 or maybe 70 and he learned that she will be turning 80 years young, and we do mean young. Kudos goes to her and how she and her husband have lived their lives.
Again, we want to note what a nice port this was for both passenger’s and for the crew. A very nice beach is within walking distance of the ship, and there are lots of restaurants and stores for those who just want a drink or food off the ship or to purchase an item. There is a wide range of jewelry available at a variety of costs and other local merchandise such as woodcraft items. The locals were very friendly. The focus of this area is really on the tourist.
As we mentioned, there was a sail away party with complimentary Margaritas.
We had another wonderful time on the ship last evening. It was nice to be back in the Main Dining Room after having been away for three consecutive nights. We enjoyed wonderful service by the wait staff of Senior Waiter Morne and our Waiter Bradlee. We remember Morne from being on board the ship last January. Both of them will be going on holiday at the end of this voyage so we will have a new Senior Waiter and Waiter when our next voyage begins in Los Angeles. Our Headwaiter, Augustu, will be with us the entire time we are on the ship as he just came back from Holiday when this voyage began in Miami.
We enjoyed another delicious dinner. We each started our meal with a very nice dinner salad. We both had the seafood main fares which was Ginger and Scallion Crusted Fillet of Fresh Striped Bass. It was accompanied by corn, shitake mushroom, and red capsicum ragout which was surrounded by warm miso sesame vinaigrette and wasabi mashed potatoes. We also enjoyed our standing order of vegetables. We capped off the meal with fruit. Once again, it was a delicious meal.
After dinner, we attended the new Production Show called Across The Pond. Rather than beginning the show at 7:30 PM, they started the show at 7:45 PM to give those dining early more time to make it over to the show. Since the show is one hour in length that meant that those in the late seating would dine at 8:45 PM instead of 8:30 PM and the timing of this show worked perfectly. There was a very large turnout for the show and it added to the overall performance. This was the first time they have started the show at 7:45 PM and based on the turnout it was a huge success.
The show was wonderful and the last several songs were all familiar songs that were performed by The Beatles. There were songs attributed to a variety of other groups that would be familiar to most people in the audience.
This is another nice addition to the production shows that are performed by these wonderful entertainers.
After the show ended we congratulated the entertainers on their wonderful performance and we even had a photo opportunity with them.
Keith is an avid fan of The Beatles both when they played together and then went on to solo careers so anytime I hear the music of the wonderful “young lads” it brings back many wonderful memories.
We slept well last evening as we sail towards our next port of call, which is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We visited this port in November.
Keith was up and about very early this morning and enjoyed another great workout in the Fitness Center. He put in another ninety-minute workout on the Elliptical Machine recording 14 miles. By the time he was midway through the workout three other passengers were also working out.
As part of this morning routine, Keith stopped by the Lido Café to bring back some coffee to the room. He spoke with Lido Deck Steward Reggie and also with Alvin and Reggie gave Keith pointers on getting those lids onto the takeout coffee cups. One day he will master this.
Anne Marie walked on the Promenade Deck for an hour. Weather providing she enjoys walking on the Promenade Deck. During the first couple of day of the crossing over to Hawaii she will likely go back to working out on the treadmill.
At around 8:00 AM there was a knock on the door and it was Alexander who set up another very nice breakfast for us. We spoke with Alexander for a little while.
Keith took his second computer class of the voyage, which was called Fun with iPhoto 09 using iMac. This was another well-attended class and Keith learned some items that he did not know.
While Keith was in the class, Anne Marie went to see Dr John McMichan present on the topic of Herbal Medications. He discussed the benefit of these medications along with some of the serious side-effects.
Following the class, we attended a lecture by Dr.. Robert Freedman who presented “From Bush to Obama: Changing US Policy in the Middle East.” One of the many core strengths of Crystal Cruises is indeed their enrichment program and we really appreciate the diversity of lecturers that Crystal brings on board each cruise. The number of lecturers that speak each day will range by itinerary and on itineraries like this one we have had the opportunity to attend up to three lectures each sea day and the lecturers have covered a wide range of topics.
At 12:00 Noon we attended Team Trivia.
We had lunch in the Lido Café but the same time there was the Grand Gala Buffet, which was set up outside of the Main Dining Room and featured numerous appetizers, entrees, desserts, breads, fruit, salads and a number of other delectable items.
This afternoon was spent outside with Anne Marie taking another nice long walk on the Promenade Deck while I played more paddle tennis. Anne Marie also sat out by the pool. Keith also spoke with some fellow passengers.
This evening we will be joining some fellow guests and will be going to Captain Glenn’s quarters for cocktails. Afterwards, we will be dining in the Main Dining Room. We will post about this tomorrow.
